Bergers Stores

This 9,000m² Distribution Centre of a national clothing retailer required a three level garment handling system. The facility is capable of processing both boxed and hanging clothing, has a picking area, accumulation declined lines for 110,000 garments and a storage capacity of 500,000 garments. Powered conveyors with automatic switches transfer the garment trolleys between the various levels and to despatch.

Fashion World

A two level facility was designed and installed for Pretoria based Fashion World, to handle garments for both immediate distribution and for style accumulation. A mezzanine floor was installed in two phases to suit the retailers growing business, allowing maximum utilisation of the warehouse space. The mezzanine and storage structure is manufactured from galvanized tubing and cast aluminium clamps and components.

Foschini

This major retailing group has over 1000 branches and nine retailing chains. A programme of continuous development and growth in their various Distribution Centres has seen many garment handling projects, ranging from multi-tier storage to powered transfer conveyors and picking systems.

Recent additions were a third operating level onto their existing storage racks in the N'dabeni DC, which has a footprint of 12 000m², and a new high volume receiving facility.

Truworths

This 27 000 m² state of the art Distribution Centre for Truworths in Cape Town serves 400 stores with a full pick and pack service. The equipment supplied and maintained by GMS Systems includes over 600m of powered overhead empty carton conveyors, some 500m of powered belt and roller conveyors, picking lines, and dynamic storage for 750 000 garments. The overhead rail equipment is fully suspended from the concrete roof above the ground floor, and from the steel roof above the 1st floor level.

Woolworths

Rennies Textile Logistics (RTL) operates a number of Distribution Centres for Woolworths, the leading retail chain for quality products in Southern Africa.

The Montague Gardens DC was fitted out with garment handling equipment by GMS Systems several years ago. The facility was designed as a cross-dock facility for 100 000 garments with a 24 hour turnaround time in the DC.

Garment sets are received pre-picked, barcoded and overbagged and placed onto purpose-designed set trolleys. Sets are sorted for transfer to other Distribution Centres or for local distribution routes.

The system is fully supported off the roof to reduce floor obstructions and increase flexibility. The entire system was installed in six weeks, ahead of the tight schedule, and met all the client's strict quality controls.
